Anyone who is in the least bit familiar with the world of iGaming has probably heard of Scientific Games. It is known as one of the leading and most successful software providers in the casino industry that has been around for about five decades now. The company is a leading force in both the online and the land-based spheres.
Scientific Games is also quite an ambitious company and has always strived to be successful in all areas and to bring its players the best possible gaming experience across all platforms.
If you have been following our news articles for some time now, then you may remember that last year Scientific Games entered the live casino market. This allowed the company to reach an even wider audience to launch its live games around the world.
However, it now seems like we won’t be seeing the name Scientific Games anymore, as the company has made the decision to do some major changes and even change the name.
Scientific Games transforms into Light & Wonder
In 2021, Scientific Games has made several big decisions regarding its future in the industry and they are implementing them immediately. One of the biggest changes is probably the rebranding of the company. As of March 2022, the company will continue its activities as Light & Wonder Inc.
This major change comes after the company’s divestitures of its Lottery and Sports Betting Businesses. Management decided that the company’s aim to establish itself as the leading-cross platform provider requires some drastic changes and a new identity.
Barry Cottle, the CEO of Light & Wonder has stated, “We are thrilled to introduce the world to Light & Wonder, a company that will build great games and franchises that offer players a seamless experience across platforms. Our powerful new strategy required a powerful new identity to distinguish us and our unique offerings and capabilities. Our new name and identity are born from our winning strategy to be the leading cross-platform game company and will inspire our people to make great products for our players.”
According to Cottle, the company already has an incredible team of developers, so this transformation will only allow them to better satisfy their players. All of its games and services can now be found on lnw.com, which is the new website.
Scientific Games’ success amid rebranding
Despite the major changes and the discontinuation of the company’s Lottery and Sports Betting Businesses, Scientific Games, or Light & Wonder, has had an incredibly successful year overall.
In the fourth quarter of 2021, the company has reported a revenue of $580m. Excluding the discontinued operations, there was an increase of 21%. Taking into account the entire year, the company has had total revenue of more than $3bn, which is a 20% increase compared to 2020.
“We are very pleased with the strong performance we achieved in the quarter, which capped what was an outstanding year,” says CEO Barry Cottle.
